Members of the Board of Directors of the association EPIONI, within the framework of the Erasmus + KA1 program "Educating Informal Caregivers", held in January 2019 a ten-day job shadowing in the organization ANT ONLUS https://ant.it/, in Bologna in order to t gain experience and skills in support of informal caregivers and to be informed about ways to organize and manage programs.
The members of the EPIONI association were welcomed by employees of the organization in the Programs department. The ANT organization supports people with cancer in every possible way through visits to homes by medical staff, as well as through provision of medicines, medical supplies and psychological support. There is nothing similar in scope and service in our country.
More than 500 professionals work for ANT (doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, health workers and office staff), supported by more than 2,000 volunteers active in fundraising activities needed to support ANT. The support offered by ANT deals with all kinds of problems from the point of view of the "general well-being" of the patient. Since 2015, the oncology home care service of ANT has the UNI EN ISO 9001 quality certificate.
"We had the unique experience to accompany Greek doctors working in the support unit at the patients' home and to see the excellent work done by the organization. We also discovered the anxiety of patients and relatives and the excellent relationship between patients, relatives and the Greek doctors. "
"They presented us with the programs they implement and the excellent communication material that the organization uses to search for sponsorships and for their presence on social media: https://twitter.com/Fondazione_ANT"
During the job shadowing, they also took part in work visits, such as at Anziani e non Solo / ANS, located in the neighboring town of Carpi. They attended speeches and presentations on the contribution of caregivers and the need to support them, exchanged views with relevant caregivers and were informed about their actions within European programs. This visit to the highly active ANS organization was the occasion for the preparation of a support program for relatives of people with kidney failure: www.ecaris.eu We visited the ANS organization to see how they work and we had in mind the idea of submitting a KA2 plan for relatives. They were extremely positive about the partnership, which proved successful a few months later.
On their return, they presented at the meeting of the Board of Directors of February 2019 a variety of materials, such as brochures, books, videos and photographs to the organization EPIONI in order to share the knowledge gained and organize the planning of similar future information actions in our country.
